Barbie Pink Lipstick!

11 Jun

Barbie was on to something when she always had those bright pink lips. I have been loving this color and I cannot wait to try out some new lipsticks. There are a few things to remember when wearing a bright lipstick like Hot Pink.

(Click photo for original site)

-Less shiny, more matte. A matte finish gives the lips a more grown up and sophisticated look. There are many types of lipsticks with a matte formula in them. However, if you happen across a shade of lipstick that you can’t bare to pass on, there is a way to “matte-fy” it. You want to blot the lipstick with a tissue then use a powder brush to brush on a small amount of transparent powder on. You don’t want to over-do it because your lips will end up looking chalky.

-Moisturize. Matte + Chapped lips = disaster. Make sure to take care of your lips before putting on matte lipstick. The finish will accentuate any dryness on your lips. One way to take care of dry lips is to lightly buff your lips with a soft toothbrush. This will help slough off some of the cells. Also, drink plenty of water to keep your body, and lips hydrated.

-Simple everything else. You don’t want to take any attention away from your gorgeous pout with heavy eye makeup. Keep the eyes simple so you can let your lips be your star. Also, a great way to frame your face is to fill in your brows with a pencil. I love the YBF eyebrow pencil in Universal Taupe. It looks really great with my brows and doesn’t look too light or dark. You can buy a pencil from Birchbox.

With these tips your lips will be looking more fabulous than Barbie EVER was! I haven’t been able to try and hot pink lipsticks, so if you have a favorite I would love to hear about it (and see pictures!)

Review: Garnier Skin Perfector BB Cream

25 May

Anyong!

BB Creams are the must have for summer. They moisturize and provide some sort of coverage instead of using two separate products to achieve the same thing. BB cream is the perfect solution for the summer. It’s light and quick.

I recently received a small sample of the Garnier BB Cream in the mail and of course I had to try it.

There were a few things that I liked about the product, however there were a few really important cons. I’m going to start with the positive.

  • I loved how easy and smooth the BB cream went on to my skin. It was really easy to apply and blended well.
  • The Garnier bb cream provided enough coverage for a day at the beach when I would want to look more natural.

However, there are a few things that I did not like and all in all deterred me from purchasing the product.

  • The cream was REALLY scented. It might be nice on days when you are sweating and tend to feel a little stinky, but this was almost as if I had poured a bottle of perfume into the cream as I was applying it.
  • My skin felt greasy and sticky. After putting on the BB cream my face felt pretty gross. I looked really shiny and it was as if I had poured greasy lotion onto my face. Even after a light powder I still felt pretty greasy.

I did not like the product in general. There were a few great things about it but I just couldn’t see myself using this again. Normally, I tend to have a pretty oily face so this product probably wouldn’t be my first choice, but for you ladies who have normal or dry skin this would probably be a great thing for you to try.

You can find Garnier BB Cream at Walmart for around $11.97

Or Amazon for around $10

I on the other hand will continue my quest to find the perfect BB Cream for my skin because honestly, who doesn’t love shaving a few steps off of their makeup routine?

Summer Skin Care Tips

19 May

Hey everyone!

Summer is pretty much here. That means spending a lot of time outdoors.

It also means that you are going to need to really take care of your skin.

Nothing is worse than getting an awful sunburn and looking like a lobster.                                          You also don’t want to end up looking like ‘Tan Mom’

Image

So here are a few of my tips to keep your skin healthy throughout summer.

DRINK WATER!

– Water is an important part of keeping your skin healthy. During the summer you                           are going to be sweating more and losing more water. Drinking water daily is                                important to keep your skin hydrated and supple. Even being a little bit                                       dehydrated will drain your energy. There really isn’t a magic number of                                                    how much water to drink. There are a few guidelines like The Institute of Medicine                        who suggest about 13 cups of water for Men, and about 9 cups of water for Women daily.

WEAR SUNSCREEN

– Wearing sunscreen is something I’ve been told since I was little, however                                               I never really cared until a few years ago when I got a sunburn so bad on the                                           tops of my legs I couldn’t wear pants.

There are a lot of benefits to wearing sunscreen. Many formulas now have                                     moisturizing qualities to them as well. By wearing sunscreen you are preventing                                     skin cancer and skin damage. It’s recommended that you wear some sunscreen                                         no matter the season because the sun is always damaging.

I recommend using Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock. The                                               sunblock goes on the skin smooth and doesn’t have that yucky greasy feeling.                                   They have a formula with SPF 30 and SPF 55 for days you are spending a majority                               of time outside.

You also want to provide sunscreen on your face. A product I recommend                                                         is Kiss My Face SPF 50 Face and Neck. The sunblock is really reliable and works really well.

WEAR A HAT

– Nothing sucks more than having a sunburn on your scalp. I have really                                            dark hair so on summer days my head gets so hot I could probably fry an                                                     egg on there. That means I usually wear a hat or a sunscreen formulated for                                                 the scalp. There are many products that are made to be non-greasy and just                                          for the scalp. I haven’t had a chance to test any out so if you have any suggestions                                              I would love to hear them!

SUNGLASSES

-Sunglasses are essential for a hot summer day. No one likes to be the                                                  ‘squinter’. They protect your eyes from damaging rays and also look pretty                                            stylish. A great and affordable place to get sunglasses is Retro City Sunglasses.                                  They have so many cute designs* AND they are UV blocking and not just tinted                                                 I usually get my sunglasses from them because most of the time I lose my sunglasses                                and it’s not a big deal as losing a $99 pair.

*The mannequin that Retro City uses is a little small so the sunglasses                                                          look WAY bigger than they would on a normal person’s head.

Remember!!! If you’re going to be drinking this summer be sure to stay hydrated                                                                                             with water and don’t over-do it. A lot of scary things can happen                                                                                                                         when you drink in the heat!
I hope all of you guys have a wonderful, fantastic summer! Let me                                                                                                                   know what your best skin care tips are!
